Surveyor Annual License Examination 2025 – Sri Lanka Survey Department

The Sri Lanka Survey Department has announced the examination for issuing the annual license to practice for registered surveyors (excluding departmental employees). The exam will be conducted at the Diyatalawa Institute of Surveying and Mapping, under the provisions of Sections 41(2) and 37(e) of the Survey Act No. 17 of 2002.

🧾 Examination Format

• Part I: Land Surveying and Levelling – Pass mark: 60%
• Part II: Plan Work – Pass mark: 60%

All measurements must be taken in metric units and will follow Survey Department regulations.

📚 Syllabus & Knowledge Areas

• Surveying instruments: Chains, tapes, theodolites, total stations, levelling instruments, GNSS.
• Land surveying basics, public relations, ethics, legal regulations.
• Inspection notes, survey traverses, boundary marking, field notes.
• Plan preparation, coordinate sheets, error distribution, scale use.
• Use of AutoCAD, SDCAD, ZWCAD, TLDB software for plans and land lists.
• Area calculations, contour plans, reports, survey file preparation.
• Benchmarks and heights from mean sea level.
• GNSS control points, SLCORSnet, RTK methods (Radio, GSM, Network).

✅ Eligibility & Required Documents

• Degree in Surveying/Science from a recognized university or the Institute of Surveying and Mapping.
• Valid registration certificate from the Land Survey Council.

💵 Examination Fee

The exam fee is Rs. 20,000. Payment can be made at:
